What does it do exactly? Suck air in in idle mode?

I noticed that when the float chamber is overfilled with gasoline, it also serves as a sort of a drainage - the excess fuel comes out of it an fills up the air filter.

The opening on your pic is the air-intake for idling-speed, when the throttle is fully closed.

When fuel is pouring out there, it´s just like if you have filled your self up with beer too much. On one point it will overflow and the beer (and other things) will come out to an openig witch was originally designd for letting things in instead of out....

Back to the Carb: If fuel comes out there regulary, it is thomething wrong with the float bowl. Check the float level, check if the floater doestn´t stick and if the floater-neddle is tight, when the chamber is full.

Got ya, man.

I just poured gsoline up to the top of the opened float chamber (close to the cap and way above the float's top). Now I am sure that this was the cause for the probem in question. I guess gasoline should stay underneath the float, and never go above it.
Soon I will try it the normal way - with gasoline supplied from the tank.

By the way, the bike works like a clock.
A 53-years old machine that kicks much more ass than any modern motorcycle.

I will be repainting it very soon.
Any ideas how to do the paint? I have no idea how to apply the gold and white lines. What masking methods should I use?
Or should I just start a separate topic?

to restore almost too good.
I would bring them technically in the regulatory and leave like that.
The optics then you can always make more.

The carburetor looks strange, especially the air filters.

^ The bike is in Europe. I live in the States (occasionally).

The carb is from AWO-S. This is what people on this forum told me.
The air filter... I don't know. I guess it is not the original one but it is an oldtimer filter and still looks very cool.

Abut the finish - what you see on the pic is the previous owner's failed effort to make his bike's worn-off paint look good again.
I will have to strip off the old paint down to the metal and then apply the new paint. I want the new paint job to be as close to the original as possible.
But those white and gold stripes... I just don't know how to apply them without ending up with a huge mess.
Any step by step tutorials on how to do this?
Any templates that one can download from the internet?
