Noch keine Zündung... Still no ignition
Hallo Mitglieder,

Hi Members,
I have been having trouble setting the ignition timing. Using the flywheel at ZP, opening the points to .4mm and locating the braker plate where it just opens at this time... I have a spark but still no ignition. Petrol is found in the cylinder as sometimes there is a very loud bang!
I am thinking it could either be the valves or compression.
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on why I cannot get ignition?
Thanks for your help

Re: Noch keine Zündung... Still no ignition
Its a 4 stroke so there are two times where the ZP is Shown in the whole. Perhaps You try it at The wrong stroke ?
Check this and try it With the other ZP.

At ZP it is the Point where your ciruit-breaker has to open.(that means contact or no more contact, check this with a proofing lightbulb and a battery) 0.4mm is the maximum distance for the circuit breaker, when he is fully open.Zelda hat geschrieben:. Re: Noch keine Zündung... Still no ignition
rotating the flywheel/crankshaft of 360°, then you're in the other stroke
the spark must be at the end the of the second stroke, not in at the end of the fourth stroke. The fourth stroke ist the outlet-stroke, the second stroke is the compression-stroke, followed by ignition (timing?).
1. suck in, the inlet valve opens
2. compression, both valves are closed
3. ignition, both valves are closed
4. outlet, the outlet valve opens
I think, your spark comes in the first stroke, this is the cose of you wet spark plug.

Re: Noch keine Zündung... Still no ignition
Thanks for all the advice. It has been followed.. I have used a multimeter (electrical tester) to set the points with the correct ZP position. If I use the other ZP position I cannot rotate the points around the cam to close them so it is not an option. However the multimeter does not switch off when the points break. I still get a strong spark and I believe this is the correct position.
However, I only get an extremely loud BANG! occasionally.
Flar, You have enough English for England! Go in the summer when all the classic bikes are out

Re: Noch keine Zündung... Still no ignition
Nochmals vielen Dank
Tom

Still nothing from the old girl. So I am thinking it is the condensor or the magneto (Zünder model EZ41) OR even the compression.
Does anyone know what to look for in this magneto (Zünder)?
What should the compression be if i can get a compression tester?
Many thanks again

Re: Noch keine Zündung... Still no ignition
Hi Tom!
I don t think it is the condensator.
You can see the right "rotation" of your fly wheel, if you open the cylinder head.
booth vents must be closed in the moment of ignition.
Sometimes it happens that ZP-mark is not correct on the fly wheel.
check out, if you can see "OT" on the fly wheel when the piston is in the upper position
Is there a strong ignition spark at your ignition spark plug?
if not check cables and so on.
If yes,
Is there enough fuel?
The sparking plug should be getting wet after you trying to start the engine.
if not something is wrong with your carburator
If yes,
Is there enough compression?
best regards,
Michael
