Ah, cool.
Seems that those electronic ignition systems only replace the Contact breaker.
You still need a magneto for them to work.

I just spoke to somebody from the forum and compared the prices for a magneto in Germany and here.
They are the same (read: freaking expensive).
Aren't there any modern companies that make AWO magneto replicas?
It looks that people are after original year 195X parts only, and this makes the prices go wild.

I don't mind using a modern magneto on my bike. As long as this can save me the extra 150 Euros for a fucking original one...

I may have a look on an Oldtimer-market this weekend, I plan to visit. I think I´ll find an original one used.
However, EUR 150 is far too much? I could tell you what dealers want these days for an original one after Saturday.
I could also buy one for you, if I get one for about EUR 20,- through 30,-. What do you think?

By the way, I have a question:

I have two AWO engines that are not cleaned and etc.
Is there any way to find out which engine is AWO-S and which is AWO-T?
Do the S and T engines look different or are they the same engine?

Alsо: can you use an AWO-S gear box on an AWO-T engine and vice-versa?

The engine number is 108385. This makes the engine AWO-Touren???

Interesting thing is that the gear box that is attached to this AWO-Touren engine has a triangular cap. I think that only AWO-Sport have triangular caps.
So, it must be an AWO-Touren engine with an AWO-Sport gearbox?????

Or maybe there are AWO-Touren gear boxes that have a triangular cap?

The engine with number 108385 is Awo-Touren , correct !
The "new" gear boxes from number 42001 have triangular caps.
The old ( Hackergetriebe ) up to number 42000 have quadrangular caps.
Sportawo and new Touren gear boxes about from Number 102500 are the same.They differ only in the number and the gearing of the speedometer drive.
Gear boxes between Number 42001 and 102500 have an external start lever stop.

Der Motor mit Nummer 108385 ist Awo-Touren , korrekt !
Die Getriebe ab Nummer 42001 haben dreieckige Deckel.
Die alten Hackergetriebe bis Nummer 42000 hatten viereckiege Deckel.
Sportawo und neues Tourengetriebe ungefähr ab Nummer 102500 sind gleich. Sie unterscheiden sich nur in der Nummer und der Übersetzung des Tachoantriebs.
Getriebe zwischen Nummer 42001 und 102499 haben einen außenliegenden Kickstarteranschlag.

I made a mistake - actually 108385 is the gear box number while engine number is 80XXX.
But it doesn't matter - in both cases seems that they come from an AWO-Touren.
Which is cool neews as I like Touren AWO much more!

Excuse me for answering so late. I did not found the time to enter our forum ealier.
However I got a Magneto for EUR 20,- which musst be re-worked/refurbished as Oldbiker expected.

I can post you the magneto.
I can also keep this magneto as a spare one for my own. Than I would send the magneto to collegues, who have the knowlage for a perfect re-work during the winter (I expect extra cost of about EUR 100,- ).

It is your choise, simply write me a private note during the next days.
I also plan to send you some figures.

Kind of cool news: this evening my father came back from our country house and he brought home two magnetos.
They are from some old Russian equipment (don't know what exactly). My grandfather (RIP) was an auto and motorcycle instructor and had some cool stuff in the shed at the country house.

I started messing with the bigger one and it turns out that this thing MAKES ELECTRICITY!
It even has that type of regulator that many magnetos don't have (the one that changes the ignition angle according to the speed of the engine).
Maybe I can adopt this brutal Russian magneto to my AWO.

@EISENHAMMER, meanwhile, I will look around for somebody who can help me with the repair of your magneto and will let you know in a few days.
