Hi Michael

OT is correct for Top Dead Centre.. and the answer is YES to all the questions you asked. Apart from compression...

HOWEVER, I opened the cylinder head and found 2 bent push-rods!!!! (Druckstange??)

So that would explain alot! Now I just need to buy some. Can you reccomend where I can get these from? I have looked on oldtimer-teiishop but they are not the same as what I have on the bike.. it as a 1955 AWO

many thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,
it's recommended to find out the reason for your bended push-rods. If you apply the new ones another damage is possible. I would recommend you to remove the cylinder-head and to check AND to renew (or at least to clean) the valve steering and to check (and at least to clean) the rocker arm.

If I read the thread I guess it could be better to overhaul the entire engine (and the rear-wheel-drive?). You could send the parts to germany. In this forum there are some professionals (e.g. mopedprinz, ....). Perhaps they take Pounds too ;;;;;

Please remove the oilpan and check for rough dirt or even fragments. In this case you should overhaul the engine unconditionaly.

Yes push rod= druckstange
valve steering = Ventilführung (http://www.leo.org)
rocker arm = Kipphebel
rear-wheel drive = Hinterachsantrieb
oilpan = Ölwanne

HI Guys,

thank you very much for the advice, it is so helpful!

The good news is that there were no fragments or dirt in the bottom. I checked the valves and they are leaking so I will re-seat them. Poor adjustment could lead to bent pushrods?

The engine has already been overhauled (apparently) by the previous owner, and I have see the pictures. If there is still no change after reassembly I will do it as you suggest.

Many thanks

Tom

I would like to remove the magneto, but first I must remove the alternator (generator), but I understand there is a special tool needed for this, is that correct?

If so, where can I find one to buy online?

thanks,

tom

Hi Tom

To remove the magnet, you must the generator does not to be removed !
The hexagonalscrew from the rotor has a left thread ! (The screw in the center of the rotor). The rotor must be blocked,
example: http://www.ost2rad.de/images/product_im ... cheibe.jpg
or an old belt :D

The stator is fixed with two normal slotscrews.

Hi Tom ,
Here is an instruction manual in German http://www.ostmotorrad.de/simson/awo/be ... t.php#a529
You can translate it for example with Google http://translate.google.com/translate_t?hl=de#
